Course Main Objectives

Every session is oriented around professionalism in business, leadership, success in creating a solid student base, service and sharing the practices of yoga in ways that inspire and uplift. Students are prepared to be innovative and to teach in a manner that respects diversity.

Our hope is that the combined elements of the program yield authentic, creative teachers who are grounded in traditional elements of yoga and educational theory and who can adapt the tradition and practices of yoga to their unique personalities, life experiences and teaching circumstances.

Techniques, Training and Practice (155 hours)

The Technology of Tantra and Hatha Yoga

These hours will be a mix between (1) analytical training in how to teach and practice the techniques, and (2) guided practice of the techniques themselves; both areas will receive substantial emphasis.

Objectives

Students are encouraged to approach the yoga practice with a sense of self-nurturing and to develop a reverence for themselves and the tradition of yoga with the objective to gain a broader perspective on the relevance and potential for yoga to be a current of support throughout life.

Through the daily practice of applied anatomy and alignment techniques in the yoga postures, students will learn how to practice and teach in a sustainable way.  Each person will be guided to innovate each yoga posture to accommodate their own needs and abilities as well as their clients and to teach yoga in a safe and progressive way.

Yoga Philosophy, Lifestyle and Ethics for Teachers   (55 hours)

Be Yourself and Change the World

Be Yourself and Change the World

Includes the study of yoga philosophies, yoga lifestyle, and ethics for yoga teachers.

Objectives

An exploration of yogic philosophy from the beginnings in the Vedic period through the more recent philosophies of Tantra and Kashmir Shaivism. Conversation, contemplation and reflection to bring a broader understanding and appreciation of the history and practices of yoga and their potential for relevance and application in the modern lifestyle.

Yoga teachers are professional educators and we encourage our graduates to invite abundance for themselves and others. Several course hours are dedicated to the discussion and application of business strategies to create and optimize opportunities as a yoga teacher.

This program includes a Seva, or self-less service opportunity. Students will be participating in local community service initiatives to facilitate a sense of connection and to feel more positive about life by uplifting and supporting others.

 

Teaching Methodology (25 hours)

Plan for Success

10312874_10100225110673543_8334096706561855552_nPrinciples of demonstration, observation, assisting/ therapeutic adjustments, instruction techniques, teaching styles, the qualities and ethics of a successful teacher, the student’s process of learning, and business aspects of teaching yoga.

Objectives

Create powerful and effective yoga posture sequences (Vinyasa Krama) that build progressively and assist in the evolution of an asana practice and are designed to give students an opportunity to expand and feel successful.

Teach with confidence in a layered format to address the varied needs of a multi-level class.

Use advanced cueing techniques to interweave yoga philosophies and ethics into the practice so that people are inspired to extend their yoga practice off the mat and into their daily life.

Refine observation skills to see more clearly what is going on with people on a physical and emotional level and to have more of an understanding of what needs to happen during asana practice to bring people to a place that is both physically stable and energetically expansive.

Verbalize adjustment instructions, tailored to meet needs of the students, in many different ways so that they can feel their best in a pose and truly benefit from the practice.

Lead yoga classes in such a way that students feel a sense of proficiency and confidence.

Develop a workshop, special focus class or series with a solid business plan, competitive pay scale and marketing campaign.

Teach authentically in a way that serves the teacher, deepens the student teacher connection, and strengthens the yoga community.

 

Anatomy and Kinesiology: Bringing Anatomy to Life (40 hours)

anatomy notes copyPractice hours will include an exploration of the asanas using experiential anatomy exercises and the study of energy anatomy with a focus on marma points and the chakras. Includes both the study of the subject and application of its principles to yoga practice (benefits, contraindications, healthy movement  patterns, etc).

Objectives

With a holistic view of the body and approach to teaching yoga, class sessions are designed so that there is a fuller understanding of the bio-mechanics of the body and healthy movement patterns so that the yoga practice is safe, effective and people are nurtured and empowered on all levels.

We respect and appreciate all body types and endeavor to guide our teachers to present asana practice in a way that is personalized and tailored to meet the students’ needs. Students are encouraged to see beyond the physical level and  appreciate the spiritual implications of the yoga practice.

Practicum (35 hours)

We provide teachers with more options and delivery methods so that they can build their classes and grow their program. We encourage and empower students to be innovative and to teach in a manner that reflects their authentic voice and personal style. We encourage supportive dialog and team building between colleagues.
